All of us have had that travel day from hell. My return from the JCK Las Vegas show earlier this month was one of those trips where it seemed everything went wrong. Thunderstorms in Richmond caused the flight to be diverted to Dulles outside Washington, DC. After a three hour wait the flight was cancelled when the pilots timed out.
At 2am in the morning, with no available hotels, what else is there to do but drive the two hours home? So I scanned the baggage area and struck up a conversation with a few guys who, like me, were waiting for their bags. A young man said he was going to Richmond, so we partnered for the ride to RIC. I drove and we chatted so we stayed awake. I was fortunate to meet a 30 year old engineer that emigrated to the U.S. at the age of 6 from Ethiopia, who is proving every day that hard work and focus pays off.
We all have been asked, he said, “So what do you do?” I explained who I worked for and who I sell to. And then told him about the Incentive Marketing Association and how we advocate for the use of incentives by businesses. His next question was concise and to the point, “Is it working?"
Are we treading water or making a difference? The last 8 – 12 months have been spent repairing our foundation. A re-focus of our energies internally to insure we are prepared for the changing landscape.
A new executive director on-boarded in January has helped refocus staff and members to the goals of IMA. The revitalized Membership Task Force is working hard to better communicate the IMA value proposition. SIGs are collaborating on a scale never before imagined – new business relationships are creating partnerships and new business opportunities. The transition to a new management company is just starting and will align us with a like-minded organization. IMA and SIG membership is growing once again as the IMA proves it is the ideal incentive marketplace. Recently revised IP and CPIM curriculums are attracting a record number of registrants for the IP course at the IMA Executive Summit. The IMA and SIGs are investing in ground breaking research to identify new markets and to help identify best program practices. The IMA is partnering with other industry associations to help establish a unified industry voice. The IMA Annual Summit is shaping up to be the best ever attended Summit in IMA history.
We have a lot of work to do; the foundation is now stable; the membership re-energized. We are now working on how to best communicate our message: developing meaningful content and determining the best way to deliver it.
With your help, we can make sure that these efforts are working. We are moving forward. And we are making a difference. Are you ready to jump on the train?
I look forward to seeing you in Nashville at the 2015 IMA Summit. Collaboration on a global scale.
The benefits of being an IMA member are many, but we know that each member joins for their own specific reasons, so we want to know why you joined IMA! What made you join? What keeps you renewing year after year? What benefits do you find most valuable? What benefits can IMA offer that it currently isn’t?
IMA is constantly re-evaluating our value proposition to our members to ensure we are staying relevant in the industry and providing our members with benefits they value. Please take a moment to provide your feedback or testimonial on your IMA membership experience. Your input is of utmost importance and is the basis of what will drive our value proposition moving forward.
Congratulations to our newly elected members of the IMA Board of Directors! They are a dynamic group of industry leaders whose insight, perspective and leadership will help move IMA forward.
Welcome to the IMA Board!
We will be at the Hilton Nashville Downtown, an all-suite hotel which is located in the heart of the Nashville action. It is a AAA 4-Diamond property with 4 restaurants and bars, 10 minutes from the airport and a short walk to some of Nashville’s best attractions.
Boot Camp is Now in Session!
New Member Boot Camp and the IGCC Boot Camp are both taking place on Sunday afternoon. If you are new to IMA, if this is your first time attending the IMA Summit, or if you would just like to get an overview of our industry and find out how to make the most of your IMA membership, attend a boot camp session. Not only will you gain valuable information, but you’ll meet some great industry leaders and other new members too.
Get Your Incentive Professional (IP) on at the Summit!
If you have been thinking about getting your Incentive Professional (IP) designation, the Summit is the place to do it. The Principles of Results-Based Incentive Program Design will be offered in a classroom style session at the Summit on Sunday, July 26th from noon – 3:00pm, followed by a proctored exam session from 3:30 – 5:00pm. Upon successful completion of each of these session, you will walk away with your IP designation. Register for the course and test session online when you register for the Summit.
Opening Reception Hosted by Target
Keynote Speaker – Max Weinberg
|Monday morning the Summit will open with Keynote Speaker – Max Weinberg, the drummer for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band. This will be followed by educational sessions on a variety of topics and plenty of networking time.||Sponsored by:|
IGCC and Cracker Barrel are hosting an Incentive Industry Shindig on Monday, July 27, 6:00-10:00 pm, reveling at the city’s #1 venue - the Wildhorse Saloon. We have booked the entire venue and will be occupying 2 floors for this private event. The event will include award-winning barbecue and a live music concert by well-known country artists, including opening act, Williams & Company.
In 2014, Williams & Company won the Wildhorse Saloon’s “Battle for the Saddle” and are currently touring heavily and working on their next album. WATCH for the announcement of our main performer coming soon!
But the party doesn’t stop there. Join us after the concert for an IGCC after party at Rockbottom Brewery, hosted by MT&L, where we’ll have more music and more fun.
Tuesday promises more educational session, the presentation of our Circle of Excellence award winners, and a speaker from a local Nashville non-profit organization, Soles4Souls. Watch your email for more information on how you and your organization can help this amazing organization wear out poverty in America and across the globe.
This year’s event promises to be one that is remembered for several years to come, so let your company be remembered with it by sponsoring one of the great opportunities still available. Click here for a list of available sponsorship opportunities.
See you in Nashville!
Randy Renz and Scott Shira are the principles of Target Marketing, a Special Markets Manufacturers’ Representatives firm based in Florida and established in 1983. Randy and Scott have extensive backgrounds in the industry prior to taking over the company in 2012. Their combined industry experience spans 60+ years working with established incentive companies in various capacities (representative, full-service incentive house, supplier). This experience allows them to be knowledgeable in all aspects and areas of the business, helping them serve clients and suppliers in a variety of ways.
Their IMA/IMRA membership provides them with a voice in the industry, a venue to share and receive ideas, and access to education and knowledge. Success stories and challenges are not all that different across the country, and they value having the ability to talk with other rep firms and suppliers. The annual IMRA Conference offers them the ability to understand supplier direction and mingle with other reps, where often the best information is gathered informally in discussions.
Constant change is a given in this industry and expected of their work. One never knows what opportunity will arise next and having broad industry experience helps them know how different ideas might be received. If one likes predictability, this is probably not the industry for you – as each day brings a different challenge. How you react to each challenge will ultimately determine your success.
When: October 13-15
The 2014 IMEX Show was a huge success for IMA booth partners. Collectively we had 217 pre-scheduled appointments, a 30% increase over the 2013 show. The show itself set new records in attendance with 10,354 participants, coming from over 150 countries. The number of pre-scheduled appointments for all exhibitors had a 6% increase over last year. Each of IMA's booth partners was able to schedule their own appointments and connect in face-to-face meetings with hosted buyers.
IMEX has extended the same exhibitor rates to IMA for 2015, so there will be no increase to members who chose to exhibit in the IMA booth. The price per partner will be $7,000 (all inclusive).
Booth space is limited to 11 partners and are going fast. To secure your spot early, please email Donna Chrobak.
