Letter From the President, Louise Anderson, CPIM

A lot can be said for the power of talented, dedicated individuals working toward a common goal.

The 56 task force members focused on IMA’s 3 year strategic plan are making great headway as they research, investigate, collaborate and simplify what is needed to engage our end customer, the corporate buyer and their leadership, with our IMA members.  The Strategic Planning Committee, composed of forward thinking leaders from every Strategic Industry Group (SIG), met last Fall. They unanimously determined that in order for IMA and all its members to be successful in the future, the voice of the customer needs to be involved in how the IMA operates. The vision is to have the IMA become a trusted advisor of businesses around the world that want to engage and motivate their people.

This enormous task has been broken into a select set of tasks within the 2014 Task Forces responsibilities of, branding, website design, End User customer focus groups, Trade Show Strategic Alliances where the end customer is the primary audience and more. 

IMA board members and task force chairs will be meeting with your SIG leadership throughout this journey. Our goal is to have the end customer (corporate buyer and their leadership) look to the IMA members, who are experts in the industry, for all of the resources they need to motivate and recognize their people whether it be as simple as procuring 100 watches, a travel event, technology, trophies or full service reward and recognition programs and much more.

This change is monumental and we need all of your support as we work to more closely engage the end buyer with the experts within the IMA and all the services that they will soon be able to access in one place.

We will have met with your SIG leadership by the end of July with an update and quarterly updates will be taking place on a regular basis.

Social Responsibility Award Application Deadline June 25

The Social Responsibility award recognizes incentive suppliers that have gone above and beyond in their efforts to expand the commitment of the entire incentive industry to social responsibility and to increase the participation of the incentive supply chain in social responsibility.

Submissions for the IMA Circle of Excellence Social Responsibility Award will be evaluated based on three key areas: Corporate Citizenship; Supply Chain Policies; and Industry Leadership. In each area, entries will be judged on:

  • Level of company commitment.
  • Creativity shown in addressing social issues.
  • Execution of social responsibility initiatives.
  • Extent to which the company communicated and promoted its position on social responsibility to customers, investors, suppliers, employees and communities.
  • Effectiveness of social responsibility efforts.

The winner will be announced at the July Summit.  The deadline for submission is June 25, 2014.

NEW! PPAI Product Safety Ambassador

This is your chance to become a PPAI Product Safety Ambassador and have your company recognized as Product Safety Aware and able to access the promotional products industry through PPAI channels. PPAI wants to help you by giving promotional products buyers confidence not only in the power of the medium but in its safety. The following sessions will be offered at the Summit and will enable you to complete three of the four sessions to qualify your company as Product Safety Aware and be added to PPAI’s early adopter list. You will simply need to take any of the PPAI elective courses to complete the process.

  • Product Safety Basics (CAS Required Course) - Sunday, July 27, 4:30-6pm
    The consumer products market is becoming increasingly regulated and subject to scrutiny by many government agencies and consumer groups. In the changing market landscape, awareness and compliance are critical to the success of industry companies and professionals. This course introduces promotional products professionals to the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), specific regulations concerning promotional products and other mandatory and voluntary standards. 
    *This course is required to attain the CAS designation, but attendees do not need to pursue a CAS to attend this session.

  • Undue Influence Training - Sunday, July 27, 4:30-6pm
    Undue influence training is an essential element in any product responsibility program and is required by the CPSC. The session will help you understand what undue influence is and how to avoid it, as well as provide you with tools and resources that are easily shared with the rest of your team.

  • Prop 65 and State Regulations - Monday, July 28, 7:30-8:30am
    Did you know that in addition to the Federal regulations that impact the promotional products industry, individual states have passed laws that can affect your company as well? This session is a must for navigating your interstate deals—not just by knowing the rules, but having strategies in place to manage them.

Shared Booth Experience

Shared Booth Experience at World at Work

On May 19 – 21, IMA offered its members a shared booth experience at the World at Work Total Rewards 2014 show in Dallas, TX.

Four IMA members took advantage of the 10X20 IMA booth, including PromoPros,, QuintLoyalty, and Breakaway Cards.

Many members of IMA have been exhibiting independently at the Total Rewards show for years, and continue to return. The audience is composed, in large part, of mid-level and senior HR personnel in decision-making roles for areas such as Compensation, Benefits, Total Rewards. These attendees represent small, medium and large companies across various industries. In addition, they have a comprehensive educational tract and offer certification courses, which attract the kind of attendees that make this show worth exhibiting at.

The shared booth experience offers members a low cost way to experience the show as an exhibitor, and determine if the Total Rewards Show is one they want their company to exhibit at in the future.  World at Work allows IMA members to participate in the IMA shared booth one time. Members that take advantage of this experience that want to exhibit in the future, are required to exhibit independently. IMA is also aggressively pursuing more opportunities to incorporate content into the educational tract that will help these key corporate end buyers on how and why they should be utilizing the goods and services of its members.

In a time when budgets are more restricted, and the marketplace and how we reach new customers is in such great transition, the shared booth experience is a great way to “test the waters” and determine the viability of new marketing initiatives for a reduced investment. IMA offers multiple shared booth experiences throughout the year.

21st Annual IRF Incentive Invitational Draws Motivation Experts to Los Cabos

Networking, education and innovation lead the way at organization’s most well-attended event in over 20 years

St. Louis, MO – June 12, 2014 – The Incentive Research Foundation’s 21st annual Incentive Invitational kicked off May 28, 2014 at Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort in San Jose del Cabo on Mexico’s Baja Peninsula, and brought together more than 400 professionals from the motivation, incentives and rewards industries, including 185 high level buyers, 90% of which were Director level or above.
