Spring is finally here and we are ready to start building. It is time for us to lay the foundation for our new 3-year Strategic Plan.

COLLABORATE, EDUCATE, AND MOTIVATE is our mantra both inside our organization and outside to our customers and end corporate buyers. In order for us to lead in the marketplace we need make sure that we leverage the talent and knowledge of our members. Below is a list of the task force SCOPE OF WORK for 2014 and the chairs of each committee. We want your involvement and input. If you want to make a difference in our industry please pick a task force and call the IMA office so you will be added to the team and included on meetings and updates.

IMA Welcomes New Executive Director

With the departure last month of Carla DeFlorio, IMA is pleased to welcome Julie Weldon as the new executive director. Julie will be working with IMA and each of the Strategic Industry Groups as the chief staff leader.

Julie has more than 20 years of association management experience. Prior to joining Ewald Consulting, IMA’s association management company in February, Julie served for five years as the assistant associate director for the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons working with several committees and managing their Annual Meeting. Prior to that Julie spent nine years as a senior account manager for Association Management Center working with multiple trade associations including the Metal Construction Association, Giving Institute, Association for Psychological Type, and Paper Industry Management Association; where her experience includes financial management, board governance, meetings and convention management, education, and membership/marketing.

Incentive Research Foundation 2013 Pulse Survey shows optimism.

Beginning in August 2008 it was decided that an appropriate topic for the 2008 Pulse Survey would be an incentive industry trends outlook for the upcoming years and with the continued economic conditions, also an appropriate topic for the trends outlook for 2013.

Given that the Incentive Research Foundation (IRF) is charged with advancing the science of incentives, it surveyed industry professionals to obtain their opinions about the more salient trends affecting the industry during 2013.

Findings indicate that the trends have stabilized this period compared to the previous four survey periods which indicated a strong positive upward trend for each of the core issues beginning in July 2009 – April 2013. 2014 Circle of Excellence and Recognition Award Recipients to be Honored at IMA Summit in Philadelphia – Submissions Due May 15

This year, IMA’s major awards will be presented at the Executive Summit, scheduled July 27-29 in Philadelphia, PA. Three hundred and fifty plus industry professionals will be in attendance as the Circle of Excellence and Social Responsibility Awards will be announced. There is still an opening to share the IMA booth at the Total Rewards 2014 Tradeshow in Dallas in May.  Space will be given on a first come, first served basis, pending show management approval.

IMRA has three positions for the Board of Directors that will begin September, 2014. Any eligible IMRA member in good standing may, at least sixty (60) days prior to the Annual Meeting, submit in writing to the Nominating Committee, his/her desire to serve as a Director, outlining his/her qualifications and understanding of the commitment involved. If you are interested in serving on the IMRA Board of Directors please submit your nomination to Julie Weldon at no later than April 30th.

Performance Improvement Council White Paper

A newly-released white paper from the Performance Improvement Council (PIC): entitled The Four Pillars of Safety, claims that while C-suite executives often identify the pillars of safety as training, risk management, PPE, monitoring, route cause analysis and culture, these are merely safety tactics and measurement tools. The true pillars of safety are: engagement, recognition, communications, and measurement. Only when these four pillars are in place can safety tactics and measurements be made effective and meaningful.

Draft Tax Reform Proposal Would Result in Repeal of Code Section 274(J)
If Congress is able to revise the Internal Revenue Code in a comprehensive and thoughtful manner, the tax reform can boost economic growth, increase jobs, and reduce the budget deficit. The outgoing chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means, Rep. David Camp (R-MI), took an important first step toward comprehensive reform by releasing a voluminous plan to simplify and modernize the Code on February 24, 2014. Click here for the full review.

Carlton Group Ltd. is pleased to announce the acquisition of R&D Corporate Services Limited (ADMIRE Recognition Solutions) Effective immediately. Rick Clarke, Certified Recognition Professional (CRP) will join Carlton Group as Sales Director and continue to lead all R&D accounts as well as contribute to Carlton’s global business growth.

Industry News

The Grand Motivation Masters Awards featured All Star Incentive Marketing among the recipients in the Engagement and Recognition category. Medical waste disposal firm Stericycle worked with All Star Incentive Marketing to create 1st Safety, a safety improvement program. As a result, Stericycle has seen an 80% reduction in insurance claims. The company has saved $800K in the first 18 months of the program.

National Gift Card recently announced that the company has launch its first proprietary application programming interface (API) to provide customers with electronic gift cards in real time. The new gift card API allows B2B program buyers and clients in the loyalty, rewards, incentive, benefit, and membership industries to quickly integrate with NGC’s gift card catalog and send NGC E-Codes in real time to program participants.


Two Senior Execs to Retire from Pioneer® Balloon Company
Pioneer® Balloon Company has announced that two of its senior executives, Wayne and Norma Roberts, are retiring this May. As 33-year veterans of Pioneer, the Roberts’ have made a far-reaching impact in their careers. “They both have been integral leaders in our management team, and are certainly well-loved by everyone in the company and in our industries,” said Dan Flynn, chief operating officer. Wayne Roberts was a founding member of IMA and is an IMA President Emeritus. He is also a Past President of PPAI.
