IMA Offers Shared Booth Experience for Three Conferences in 2014

The IMA is pleased to announce the expansion of the Shared Booth Experience. Each year since 2012, the IMA Board has committed to continue to expand the Shared Booth Experience program to include new niche trade show opportunities. 2014 will feature three opportunities:

  • Total Rewards 2014, sponsored by World at Work (May 19-21 at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Dallas). Niche: Compensation, Benefits and Recognition

    Total Rewards 2014 will incorporate up to five (5) booth partners who are new to this trade show. The Total Rewards audience is made up of compensation, benefits and total rewards decision makers and influencers. All Total Rewards Booth partners must be first-time exhibitors and be approved by Total Rewards.

  • Safety 2014, presented by the American Society of Safety Engineers (June 8-11 at the Orlando Convention Center in Orlando). Niche: Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE)

    ASSE attracts an exclusive group of more than 4,000 buyers in the SHE profession who are looking for realistic solutions and alternatives for their safety programs. The estimated number of booth partners for this first-time exhibiting opportunity is up to seven (7).

  • IMEX America 2014 (October 14-16 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas). This travel-focused show attracts more than 4,000 hosted buyers and attendees, many of whom purchase merchandise and cards for their programs, as well as travel. Last year, IMA and ten (10) IMA members shared a 10’ x 30’ booth. Due to the success of the past two years, IMA is investigating expansion options for 2014. The number of booth partners has not yet been finalized, but could be capped around twelve (12), depending on final arrangements. All booth partners must be approved by IMEX America.

The estimated cost for shared booth partners is typically a fraction of the cost of exhibiting independently. PIC White Paper: Prescription to Success: Employee Engagement Saves Lives in the Healthcare Industry
As the Affordable Care Act (ACA) becomes reality for millions of Americans, a paper comes from the Performance Improvement Council (PIC) of the Incentive Marketing Association (IMA) that concludes: "one of the most effective ways to improve the quality of patient care is to invest in helping healthcare employees feel more engaged in their work” so they have a better chance to realize their goal of "helping patients and saving lives.”

In Prescription for Success: Employee Engagement Saves Lives in the Healthcare Industry, PIC member and O.C. Tanner Business Development VP, Michelle M. Smith outlines why implementing healthcare employee engagement programs work:

  • Employee Engagement = Patient Care Quality & Satisfaction because patient satisfaction levels directly relate to staff interaction and that recognition can lead to more respect, visibility and better performance.
  • Perception Is Powerful when just implementing a recognition program can boost employee engagement levels before the first award is given.
  • Managers Play a Key Role in every business, but it is critically important for healthcare leaders to overcome the overwhelming challenge that nearly half of all employees don’t feel their management cares about them – a catastrophic situation in healthcare.

Smith adds, "Each year, 195,000 patients die from avoidable mistakes – far more people than will be killed by gun violence and drunk drivers. Yet, while these deaths can be prevented, the healthcare industry still lacks strong support for business tools that can engage its workforce and turn these statistics around.”


U.S. Postal Service to Increase Postal Rates for 2014

On January 26, 2014 the U.S. Postal Service® (USPS) will implement new postage rates for several mail classes including First Class Package Service, Priority Mail® and Priority Mail Express® along with many special services.

Consumers themselves will not face an immediate financial burden as forever stamps, first-class postage price-capped regardless of current rates, are available for purchase at the current $0.46-rate until Jan. 26. After, first-class single-piece letters will require a $0.49 stamp.

The USPS, which says it lost $5 billion through Sept. 30, 2013 and $15.9 billion in 2012, claims it desperately requires these rate increases as the business has struggled for years, as mail volume decreases have been rapid and consistent. Since 2006 the USPS has also defaulted on three congressionally required payments of $5.6 billion annually to cover future retirees’ health care costs.
