Season’s Greetings, fellow Incentive Marketing Association members.

It is with gratitude and reverence that I consider my past year with the IMA board and membership. I am proud and honored to have worked alongside such a dedicated and competent group of people, and humbled by the commitment you’ve all made to the betterment of this association and the growth of our industry. The year has presented some real challenges and evidenced transition ahead. In these, we see opportunity, and I am energized by the vigor and creativity with which you are embracing the occasion. There is an excellent Board and Executive team working to lead the way, and I encourage you all to stay connected and committed to the effort; your ideas and energy are as valuable as ever.

Great things are afoot for 2014!

Incentive Magazine Announces New Incentive Buyers Conference

As featured in Incentive Magazine . . .On Tuesday, December 17, IncentiveMagazine announced the launching of a new industry educational event. The Incentive Buyers Conference (IBC) will take place August 17 – 19, 2014 at the Vdara Hotel & Spa in Las Vegas. The hosted buyer show will focus on educating incentive industry buyers as well as providing them with opportunities to meet with suppliers from the merchandise and gift card industries.Incentive will partner with IMA and the Incentive Research Foundation (IFR) to offer industry-leading educational content. ASI Survey Says that Corporate Gift Giving for Employees and Clients is the Highest in Four Years

The Advertising Specialty Institute® (ASI) released results from its annual corporate gift-giving survey earlier this month showing spending on employees and clients is the highest it’s been in four years.

Companies giving gifts told ASI they plan to spend an average of $44.98 for employees and $33.92 for clients and prospects this holiday season, compared to $41.70 and $26.48, respectively, given last year. Data shows buyers are not expecting to give out as many items, but are spending more on the items they do give. Read more.


2014 IMA Shared Booth Opportunities Announced

IMA is pleased to announce the expansion of the shared booth experience. In 2012, IMA conducted an experiment in conjunction with the IMEX America show. IMA created an opportunity for its members to participate in a tradeshow as part of a collaborative IMA Incentive Marketplace. The experiment was very successful, so the IMA Board made a commitment to continue to expand this experience to other niche tradeshow opportunities. The Total Rewards tradeshow sponsored by World at Work was added in 2013. IMA is proud to announce an opportunity for three upcoming tradeshows in 2014: Total Rewards 2014 (May 19 – 21 in Dallas), Safety 2014 (June 8 - 11 in Orlando), and IMEX America 2014 (October 14 – 16 in Las Vegas). Each of the shows has particular niches that will be described in upcoming editions of FastTake. Be on the lookout for each of these great opportunities!

This year, IMA and ten IMA members shared a 10’ x 30’ booth at IMEX America. Due to the success of the past two years, IMA is investigating expansion options for 2014. This travel-focused show attracts more than 4,000 hosted buyers and attendees, many of whom purchase merchandise and cards for their programs, as well as travel. The estimated cost for each booth partner is typically a fraction of the cost of exhibiting independently. While all exhibitors, including booth partners, must be approved by IMEX America, IMA would like to gage potential interest from our members. 14 Brand and Marketing Trends for 2014

It was management consultant, Peter Drucker, who advised the best way to predict the future was to create it. Creating new things being difficult, the next best way is to have access to validated and predictive loyalty and emotional engagement metrics to help point the way. Happily, we do. And after examining over 100,000 consumer assessments, we’ve identified 14 critical trends to help marketers create their own, successful futures next year.

  1. Consumers Expect More: Over the past 5 years consumer expectations have increased on average 20%. Brands have kept up by only 5%, a big gap between what’s desired and what’s delivered. The ability to accurately measure real, unarticulated expectations, will provide significant advantages.
  2. Attention Must Be Paid to Brands: Increased expectations come with a greater sense of product and service commoditization. You may be known, but you need to be known for something meaningful and important to consumers. Read more.
