Incentive Federation’s 2013 Study Shows Industry Annual Spend is $76.9 Billion

The Incentive Federation recently released the results of their 2013 Incentive Market Sizing Study. In partnership with Aspect Market Intelligence, the Incentive Federation collected data from a national sample of business executives to estimate the size of the non-cash incentive marketplace. And the findings are outstanding!

  • 74% of U.S. businesses use non-cash rewards to recognize and reward their key audiences
  • U.S. businesses spend $76.9 billion per year on incentive travel, merchandise, and gift cards
  • 46% of businesses running non-cash programs include incentive travel as a reward, spending $22.5 billion.
  • 98% of businesses running non-cash programs include cards and/or merchandise as a reward, spending $54.4 billion each year.
  • Smaller firms account for half of the market based on the sheer number of these companies.

Time to Prepare for the Silver Decade

In July, 2013, I had an opportunity to meet some of our membership for the first time at the IMA Summit in Denver. During that initial address, I talked about today’s IMA and the fact that IMA is celebrating 15 years in business. Simple addition tells us that these next ten years will lead us to our 25th or Silver Anniversary, a true milestone in our future. Those who have lived even a little while know how quickly time can fly and that this significant anniversary will be here before we know it. I asked the audience to consider one question: "Where do you see IMA in ten (10) years?” and I invited everyone to stop me in the hallways, corridors, in classes, to share their perspective.

I am so excited for what lies ahead! As we approach the wrap up of 2013, I am anticipating a great start to 2014 with a new strategic plan, your newly elected Board members, your new Executive Committee, new initiatives and lots of creative energy and involvement from the membership to focus us on the beginning of what I am calling our "Silver Decade.” This will be the first of the ten years that lead us to our 25th Anniversary. I challenge all of you to think about how we can make an imprint on the industry and organizations worldwide each and every year. I believe that it will take focus and unity as an industry, but most importantly, it will take YOUR input, contributions, vision, and voice. I challenge you to answer my question . . . "Where do you see IMA ten (10) years from now?” Send me your creative thoughts, ideas, and dreams. . . Who knows what we can accomplish?

IMA Announces Partnership with Forum Events for 2014 HR & Employee Benefit Summits

IMA is partnering with Forum Events Inc. to present three scheduled HR & Employee Benefit Summits throughout 2014. These events are specifically designed for Senior Level HR & Employee Benefit professionals looking to source new and innovative solutions and are very different from a traditional trade show or Expo. Premiere NY-NJ Incentive Show a Succes

On October 3, 2013, the first-ever Metro Incentive Show, organized by five independent NY/NJ-area rep firms, attracted more than 150 resellers and end-user buyers of incentive products, recognition awards and business gifts. The event was supported by more than 50 table-top displays staffed by the rep firms' suppliers. More than 70 brands, including 33 IMA Member brands, were represented by exhibitors who overwhelmingly expressed satisfaction with the event's location, layout, organization and attendance.

One participant said he met with as many resellers and key end-users during the show's five hours as he could have in five business days in the NY area, and at a fraction of the cost. Attendees were treated to a buffet lunch and numerous prize drawings. The sponsoring rep firms were Award Marketing Services, Carlisle Sales & Marketing, Dynamic Marketing Associates, Hoffman & Edgette and Pilgrim Promotions. Sales & Marketing Management magazine was a media sponsor.
