IMA's 2016 Charity Campaign

IMA chose Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) for their 2016 charity campaign. Specifically, to three Ronald McDonald houses throughout the United States: Houston (Holcombe House), Long Island and New Orleans.

House choices reflect the cities of the IMA 2016 Summit (Houston), IMRA's 2016 Marketing Conference (New Orleans), and IMRA's 2016 IMRA Conference Chair & Past President's, Bill Martocci's, Ronald McDonald House stay in 2014 (Long Island).

We raised $31,000 in gift card, cash and merchandise donations for Ronald McDonald House Charities in 2016!

Choosing Ronald McDonald House Charities for IMA's 2016 Charity Campaign | A Letter from Bill Martocci

Dear IMA Members,

As many of you may be aware in the fall of 2014 my youngest daughter had a serious and unique health issue requiring her to be admitted to the hospital for 66 days. Much of that time was on a ventilator in the intensive care unit of L.I.J. Hospital in NY. It was the only facility around with the specialists she needed that could adequately deal with her condition.

During this time, my wife and I were fortunate enough to be able to utilize the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island right next door to the hospital. This room was a welcomed spot to catch some sleep, shower, and eat. Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) were provided by volunteers. They did not care how long you needed to be there. We met families from all over the country and abroad. Some came for long hospital stays and others for scheduled treatments. We spent Halloween, Thanksgiving, my birthday, and our anniversary there. We saw how this haven tried to keep holidays festive for all residents: including patients undergoing treatments and their siblings who needed to be along for the ride as well.

The cost was a suggested $20.00 per day donation, and that was only if you could afford it. Without the Ronald McDonald House we would have had to lodge at a hotel. A cheap hotel room would have cost at least $100.00 per day - NOT including food!

Before I needed their services, I barely gave their charity a thought when seeing the plexi-glass donation boxes while ordering my chicken McNuggets. Occasionally I might have thrown in my spare change.

My experience gave me great respect for the Ronald McDonald House organization which was kind enough to take in my and others' families during a trying time when a child's health is at stake.  My family benefited directly from this organization’s work. I am now a firm supporter of Ronald McDonald House and remain highly appreciative of their benevolence.

Members of IMRA, the SIG of which I was president, became aware of my situation and suggested that they take RMHC on as their charity for 2016, asking me to lead in that effort.  My connection to the IMA board as a director had me involved in discussions with them as well. They too felt Ronald McDonald House would be a great philanthropic endeavor for IMA, which sounds great to me.  Repeatedly RMHC is ranked among the top charities with roughly .93 of every dollar going to running a house.  Ronald McDonald House can use all the support it can get and the extended support from IMA and all the SIGs is amazing and personally touching.

My plea is to the entire IMA community to help us raise funds for this great organization who is providing such a needed service for so many families touched by a child’s illness. Cameron is currently doing well, in school and resuming almost all the activities a 13 year old should. For that I thank God, her outstanding care, and the positive thoughts that were sent our way by so many.

Please help our initiative with a donation so the next family put in this unexpected position has a place to gather themselves and their families as they battle what they look to overcome.  Further details on how to donate will be coming, so please keep an eye out, remember my story, and act.  On behalf of my daughter, the rest of my family, and myself, I want to thank you for taking the time to read this and considering my request.

Sincerely,
Bill Martocci
